Stay Focused – Even If You Think You Can’t

Can’t stay focused? Having trouble getting back on track despite a prioritization list and a block calendar? Experts will tell you that the only way to stay on the path to success is to stay focused. Sounds easy, right? Of course not! You are part of the human race and subject to fluctuations in productivity just like everybody else—but that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost.

My top 3 tips to stay focused and improve your discipline:

  1. Eliminate Distractions – Close your door, turn off your phone, and make sure you are only only responding to top priority emails and messages. The average American has 79 apps on their phone as of 2018 and most are pinging and dinging a path to total distraction. Each and every distraction can cost you precious time throughout your day.
  1. Strengthen Your Discipline – Don’t immediately give into undisciplined behaviors. On days when you have high discipline, you probably won’t have this problem. Discipline is like a muscle and required continuous practice. Each day you increase your level of discipline, you will strengthen yourself for when discipline levels are low.
  1. Keep Your Goals in Sight – Whether it’s your annual revenue goal or your family, don’t forget WHY you are doing what you are doing. Proudly display copies of your goal. Reach out to your accountability partners. Hang photos of your family to inspire you and remind you that there is a reason why you need to pull yourself together and get through this challenging time.
“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.”
— Paul J. Meyer
